Changing Your Benefits
Because many of your benefits are paid with before-tax payroll deductions, the IRS does not allow you to change your elections during the year (outside of Annual Enrollment), unless you experience a qualifying life event.
Qualifying Life Events
You may be able to change your coverage mid-year if you experience one of the following:
- Marriage, divorce, legal separation or annulment
- Birth, adoption or placement for adoption of a child
- Gain or loss of coverage through your spouse’s employer (not including loss due to failure to pay premiums)
- A child’s gain or loss of eligibility status
- Death of a spouse or dependent child
- A change in work schedule that affects benefits eligibility
- Loss of coverage under another plan or a Special Enrollment Period through the Health Insurance Marketplace
- A Qualified Medical Child Support Order
- Eligibility for Medicare
Any changes you make must relate directly to the life event.
Deadline to Make a Change
You have 60 days from the date of a qualifying life event to make changes to your coverage. If you miss this deadline, you will have to wait until the next Annual Enrollment to make changes, which won't be effective the following January 1. That could mean paying premiums for a dependent you no longer cover.
How to Make Changes
- Log onto Oracle Cloud.
- From the home screen, select Me > Benefits.
- If you're adding a new dependent, select Before You Enroll - Dependents and Beneficiaries from Quick Actions on the left side of the screen and enter the dependent's information. Then continue with step 4. If you're not adding a dependent, skip to step 4.
- From Quick Actions, select Report a Life Event.
- Follow the prompts to make changes.
If you're adding a dependent, you must provide documentation supporting the dependent’s eligibility, such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate or adoption documents.
